Today, I was walking to the train station to catch my train to Nottingham, and I was greeted by this sight on the main pedestrian thoroughfare from the centre of town to the train station.
As you can see, someone has obviously decided that their mattress is surplus to requirements, and instead of taking the mattress to the recycling centre (less than 5 minutes walk away, see below map), felt the need to dump it in the street for all to see.
This is a common sight along these streets and shows to me that certain people who live along these streets do not have pride in their local area, and find that it is OK to just dump any old rubbish in the street.
I know I am sounding very grumpy today, but this is something that really does irritate me. It also reflects badly on an area of town that is used by many people who commute to and from Grantham. This leads to misconceptions of the area and the people in it.
Hopefully, we will get to a point where all communities work together to ensure their streets are kept clean and tidy, so that it becomes a pleasant and habitable area for people to live in and walk through.
